Get Outside: Kennedy Dells Park – New City, NY

We tried out a great new (to us) hike this past weekend and we all agree that we will be back.  This hike starts out at the edge of the city sports complex.  There are clean bathrooms and plenty of parking in two lots.  The trail is a loop path marked by white blazes and is about two and a half miles long.  It’s mostly flat and was easy for my little hikers, ages 3 and 6.  There is a small waterfall you can view, but there’s a small drop off so stay alert.  Our favorite part was the stream that ran alongside part of the trail.  It was perfect for exploring and not too deep. My kids loved dropping rocks and sticks into the stream to see how far they would go.  Another favorite was all the rocks and rock walls along the sides of the trail which were fun to climb.  We also saw deer, rabbits, dragonflies and plenty of birds while hiking. We saw other hikers – many with leashed dogs and nearly all friendly – but it wasn’t crowded at all.  Some hikers wore masks and there was plenty of space for social distancing.  This location is already near the top of our favorite local hikes list.
