A day trip to Stepping Stones Museum for Children

One of my favorite activities to do with my family is take a day trip to a place we haven’t been before.  Sometimes we’ll explore a new downtown or taste local treats - it doesn’t have to be anywhere far or exotic, almost any place has some surprises if you have a sense of adventure.  This past weekend we took a short drive (about an hour in normal traffic) to Norwalk, Connecticut to visit the Stepping Stones Museum for Children.  We’ve been to the area before to spend a day at the Maritime Aquarium which I strongly recommend as well.  You could even make a fun weekend getaway by combining the two locations and staying at one of the local hotels with a pool.

There was plenty for our 3 and 6 year olds to explore.  The Energy Lab, dinosaurs (of course!) and exhibit on construction were some of our favorites, and we really enjoyed one of the plays they presented.  There are performances and activities every 30 minutes or so throughout the day so I highly recommend taking advantage.  The play we saw lasted about 20 minutes and was funny and engaging for both kids and parents.  We also like the outdoor area attached to the  museum with a maze and life size building blocks.

The museum is located in a large park that has several other points of interest along with a large playground and splash pad.  After the museum, we stopped for a yummy dinner at Bobby’s Que less than a half mile away and even ordered some of their homemade donuts for the ride home.
